On Saturday January 13, 2024, and Monday January 15, 2024. Over 55 people attended one of two information sharing summits that were held in our beloved community. The Land Summit, hosted by the Tacoma Ministerial Alliance, was held at the Tacoma Urban League for Tacoma and Pierce County Black Clergy and Church Leaders. The Black Clergy Summit, hosted by the Black Home Initiative and the Nehemiah Initiative Seattle, was held at the Downtown Sheraton Grand Hotel and was open to all community members, especially those who attended the Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Prayer Breakfast that was held beforehand. The main purpose of both summits was twofold:

1.       to encourage places of worship to consider repurposing their open and available land into affordable housing.

2.       to disseminate information about the Black Home Initiative(BHI) and share how all people can utilize a variety of known and funded programs to purchase a home of their own.

Both summits ended with a great sense of joy and optimism. Growth of home development, management and ownership in our community that is initiated for us and by us is an important part of wealth accumulation.  We believe that the work shared at the summits has the ability to place our community on a trajectory to increase individual, family and communal wealth in the months and years to come.
